Institutional Effectiveness

The Office ensures the University carries out its commitment to annually assess the effectiveness of its responsibilities. Whether that’s ensuring SIU the strategic plan is assessed, the units maintain assessment reports, or that our  student learning outcomes are assessed, each has a unique process that is managed and executed.  

Additionally, the office ensures SIU maintains its accreditation as a member institution within the Higher Learning Commission, as well as our membership as a Community Engaged Carnegie Classified institution.Cycle of Effectiveness Chart The University’s accreditation with HLC is active until 2030, and the Community Engaged Classification is active up through 2025.

Holding membership with the Higher Learning Commission reflects our proven commitment to integrity, compliance, and continuous improvement of our operational areas including finance, student learning, and personnel management. Being a Community Engaged institution reflects our demonstrated commitment to operating as an institution that deeply and meaningfully collaborates with the community in its decision making and services. 

Institutional Planning

Everything starts with our IMAGiNE2030 Strategic Plan! The office ensures that our leaders are establishing plans and procedures to carry out the various priorities of IMAGiNE2030.  Since 2022, we have annually documented progress on our Strategic Plan.  

Institutional Research

The Office provides timely, accurate, accessible, and data-driven information to support Southern Illinois University Carbondale's position as a nationally recognized research university. These data streams have multiple stakeholders including the federal government, the state government, students, parents, and the general public.
